Let’s talk about Taupe – the It nail polish color of this century 🙂

Die unscheinbare Farbe Taupe eroberte als Nagellack spätestens mit der Einführung von Chanel Particulière die moderne Frauenwelt. Während Particulière heute in der Standardpalette von Chanel zu finden ist, war er im Jahr 2010 als limitierter Frühjahrslack hoffnungslos vergriffen und ich musste meinen Namen auf eine Warteliste setzen lassen, um den Lack zu bekommen. Zeitgleich wurden in allen Magazinen ähnliche Alternativlack zu dem kaum verfügbaren Particulière vorgestellt, allen voran die zwei mittlerweile wohl bekannten OPI-Lacke Over The Taupe und You Don’t Know Jacques, deren Abbildungen in den Zeitschriften bei mir nach und nach mehr Interesse hervorriefen als Particulière selbst. Die Flaschenform mit der großzügigen Füllmenge gefiel mir sofort 🙂

With the epic release of Chanel Particulière the inconspicuous color Taupe conquered the modern nail polish market. While Particulière is nowadays part of Chanel’s permanent product range, back in 2010 it was as limited Spring polish completely out of stock and I had to be put on a waiting list in order to get it. At the same time women’s magazines presented affordable and – most importantly – available similar alternative polishes, in particular the by now well known OPI polishes Over The Taupe and You Don’t Know Jacques which after some time captivated me more than Particulière itself. I immediately loved the bottle shape with its generous filling quantity 🙂

Ab diesem Zeitpunkt hielt OPI auch endlich Einzug in österreichische Parfümerien. Ich glaubte damals, dass OPI die zwei Taupe-Töne bewusst als farbliche Doppelgänger zu Chanel Particulière entworfen hätte, doch tatsächlich brachte OPI You Don’t Know Jacques bereits im Herbst 2008 und Over The Taupe im Sommer 2009 heraus. Chanel war also keineswegs farblicher Vorreiter, hat aber zweifelsohne wesentlich zur Popularität dieser Nagellackfarbe beigetragen.

At this moment OPI polishes finally started to pop up in Austrian perfumeries. Back then I was convinced that OPI deliberately designed the two Taupe shades as dupes for Chanel Particulière, however, as a matter of fact OPI You Don’t Know Jacques was already released in Fall 2008 and OPI Over The Taupe in Summer 2009. So Chanel was in no way the pioneer color wise but without a doubt contributed considerably to the popularity of the color.

Seitdem erscheinen von allen Marken immer wieder neue Farbnuancen von Taupe wie beispielsweise China Glaze Foie Gras, OPI Berlin There Done That, OPI It’s All San Andreas’s Fault (Texture-Lack), Essie Chinchilly und die jüngsten OPI-Zugänge aus der diesjährigen Brazil Collection OPI I Sao Paolo Over There und OPI Taupe-less Beach. Einige dieser Lacke sehen Chanel Particulière zum Verwechseln ähnlich wie ihr auf den Bildern sehen könnt 🙂 Was haltet ihr von taupefarbenen Lacken und habt ihr ein Lieblings-Taupe? Wann ist euch diese Farbe in Geschäften zum ersten Mal aufgefallen?

Since then a lot of brands have released all kinds of taupe shades such as China Glaze Foie Gras, OPI Berlin There Done That, OPI It’s All San Andreas’s Fault (texture), Essie Chinchilly and the last OPI additions from this year’s Brazil Collection OPI I Sao Paolo Over There and OPI Taupe-less Beach. Some of these shades are very similar to Particulière as you can see on my pictures 🙂 What do you think of taupe nail polishes and do you have a favorite?
