When it comes to the ever-changing seasonal fashion colors there are several ways to make it through the vast and sometimes disturbing color jungle and come out alive and trendy on the other side: 1. stick with new collections, 2. rely on timeless classics – pastels for spring, neon for summer, jewels for fall, whatever for winter, 3. don’t care about anything – the fashion world loves underdogs, OR, which brings me to today’s topic, 4. check out Pantone’s Fashion Color Report!

Every spring and fall Pantone releases the Fashion Color Report with an elaborate selection of ten trend colors. So what I like to do each season: I take a look at the Color Report and then search my stash for matching polishes. I first did this one year ago but I practically did it just for myself, because I felt it was just too much information for one post. This year, however, I’m dragging you along with me 🙂

Let’s begin with a peek at all the ten trend colors together. I think it’s a great mix! All the colors go really well together. I also included the original Pantone color names. They always have this fancy and slightly stoned vibe to them 😉 Now let’s move on to each color separately!

Dried Herb is a dusty olive green. Pantone describes it as an “organic shade redolent of nature’s earthy fragrances”. I love this color! And it has become more and more popular as nail polish shade in the last years. The hue clearly belongs in the rich color palette of an autumnal landscape. KBShimmer just released a gorgeous polish in the shade Dried Herb: KBShimmer Open Toad Shoes, an olive green glitter crelly with an unexpected mix of gold, purple and blue glitter. You might already have China Glaze Mind the Gap at home since it was part of China Glaze’s fall collection All Aboard one year ago. It’s an olive green with brown undertones and a flash of turquoise shimmer. SuperChic Lacquer You Don’t Know Jack About My Beans would also be a great choice. It’s a dusty green with a reddish shimmer to it. Although it’s very sheer I still recommend it. You can apply an olive green base like OPI Uh-oh Roll Down the Window or Zoya Charli (new this fall from the Zoya Focus Collection), then top it off with one coat of You Don’t Know Jack About My Beans and you get a gorgeous fall manicure.

Desert Sage is a light dusty green. Greyed out pastels are always a good choice for fall. You can never go wrong with them because they are always appropriate and very wearable. First up is Zoya Vespa, a dusty green pixie dust. (Oh how I miss you, textures!!) I love this polish and feel bad right now because I never wear it – which goes for my entire stash by the way. I just can’t keep up with my purchases. Another great Desert Sage green is Butter London Two Fingered Salute. It contains coppery microglitter which makes it really special! The third polish you’re seeing in my pic is Contrary Polish The Way I Am which is infused with small pink glitter.

Stormy Weather is a medium cool gray with slight blue undertones, “reminiscent of the sky on a gray, overcast day”. This color turned out to be quite complex as I could not find an exact match in my stash. So I picked the ones that resembled Stormy Weather the best. China Glaze Immortal is a medium gray with a refined blue and purple shimmer mix. Then I included SuperChic Lacquer Chasing Shadows, a gray jelly that is filled with gray and purple glitter and has a gorgeous teal shimmer to it. Finally we have Zoya Loredana from the Matte Velvet Collection. It dries matte, but you can also wear it with top coat which brings out a delicate luster.

Oak Buff is a warm ocher and according to Pantone “another one of nature’s illustrious shades. Just as the sun comes out after stormy weather to bring us cheer and a glimmer of hope.” (and we’re back to slightly stoned) Oak Buff is undoubtedly a lovely shade for fall and I absolutely adore it! This color was also difficult to find in my stash but I guess that the three polishes I chose, represent Oak Buff pretty well. China Glaze Desert Sun is a butterscotch colored creme and on the brown/orange side of the ocher spectrum. It was part of the On Safari Collection in fall 2012 but you can still find it. Rescue Beauty Lounge Footpath is a more yellow toned ocher but equally pretty. If you prefer something shimmery check out Cirque Chrysopoeia!

Marsala is a rich winey red-brown. We already know this color pretty well since it is Pantone’s Color of the Year 2015. Check out my previous post here! Marsala was also included in Pantone’s Spring Fashion Color Report of this year, but it felt a little out of place there. However, now in fall a brownish burgundy is more than appropriate 🙂 In my picture you can see OPI I Knead Sour-Dough, a dusty reddish brown shimmer with pink undertones. Then we have Zoya Marney, a Marsala-colored cream and a little darker than I Knead Sour-Dough. And lastly, I’m showing you KBShimmer Men Are From Mars-ala which was specifically created to match Marsala. It is a pinkish brown holo and oh so sophisticated!

Biscay Bay is a vibrant teal, or, as Pantone describes it, “a lush and elegant teal”, which is quite apt in my opinion! I love that Pantone included this pop of color in the fall palette and I have some really gorgeous polishes to show you that go along with this hue. Butter London Slapper is a classic representative of Biscay Bay and you might already have it at home. China Glaze Wait n’Sea is slightly more blue toned and equally lovely. It actually was among my Top 5 Summer Polishes of 2014! And finally my favorite of this selection: ILNP Cold Fusion, an ultra chrome flakie. This polish gives us the opportunity to combine a Pantone trend color with the current multichrome flakie polish trend. I mean c’mon, you can’t get better than that! 🙂

Reflecting Pond is a deep teal-leaning blue and a true and classic fall shade! “Conveying a message of credibility, Reflecting Pond is a serious shade that speaks to our need for stability and security.” Well, well, well … 🙂 Surprisingly, I only found creme polishes in my stash that go along with that hue. First up is OPI I Saw…U Saw…We Saw…Warsaw. It was part of OPI’s Euro Central Collection for Spring 2013. More green toned is China Glaze Well Trained from the All Aboard Collection. And finally, there is the Goldilocks of the three polishes, Chanel Blue Rebel, whose color lies right in between.

Cadmium Orange is a corally orange. It’s an unusual shade for fall but when I think of the colorful leave shades that surround us now, I can go with it. My favorite for this hue is OPI Can’t aFjörd Not To but OPI Toucan Do It If You Try is insanely similar. They are pretty much dupes of each other. In my pic Toucan Do It If You Try is on the left side and Can’t aFjörd Not To on the right. I also included Zoya Jesy. It has more yellow in it and is a true medium orange. I love it because of the iridescent micro glitter and shimmer.

Cashmere Rose is a light mauve or cool pink with lilac undertones if you will. This was the color that gave me the most trouble. I couldn’t find a single polish that was an exact match. At first I thought OPI Just Lanai-ing Around would be a perfect match but when I actually looked at my swatch stick it seemed way too dark. So I settled for light lavender-pink hybrids. I think KBShimmer Berry Patch is the closest to Pantone’s Cashmere Rose. It is a cool pink jelly with dark pink microglitter and sparse blue hexes. OPI Purple Palazzo Pants is a lavender creme and part of the brand new Venice Fall 2015 Collection. So I feel good including it here even if it’s not a perfect match to Cashmere Rose 🙂 Very similar to Purple Palazzo Pants is Essie Under Where?. The shade Cashmere Rose sure feels a little bit out of season but look how lovely the bottles in my pic blend in with the colors of the leaves behind them!

Amethyst Orchid is a cool, vibrant purple. All shades of purple are timeless for fall but this year’s purple bears an unexpectedly fresh and vivid touch. Personally, I prefer cooler shades of purple and Amethyst Orchid is right up my alley. A royal incarnation of Amethyst Orchid is Picture Polish Imperial. It contains tiny blue glass flecks and small rose gold hex glitters. You can also go for a pure creme polish like China Glaze Plur-Ple from this year’s Electric Nights Collection. Finally I included OPI Lost My Bikini in Molokini from the Hawaii Collection. It is more muted than Imperial and Plur-Ple and some of you might be more comfortable with that.
