Today I have the new OPI Soft Shades Collection to show you! It’s a mix of 6 pastel shades that are all meant to be worn opaque which sets them apart from previous Soft Shades Collections that consisted mostly of nude semi-sheer jellies. OPI even goes as far to describe the polishes of the new collection as “softly shaded, seriously opaque”. Let’s find out if they can keep their promise regarding opacity! 🙂
I Am What I Amethyst is a pastel periwinkle/lilac creme. I included this polish in my Top 5 polishes for spring. I love the unusual color! I managed to get it opaque in 2 coats but I applied a very thick second coat. 2 coats + Top Coat
It’s a Boy! is a classic pastel baby blue creme. This polish had the best formula of all of them. It’s a solid 2-coater. I didn’t have any issues with the formula whatsoever. The color is nothing special but very pretty and fresh nonetheless. 2c + TC
It’s in the Cloud is a creamy off-white crelly. The color is very pretty and delicate but the beauty stops there. The formula was really bad and disappointing. It applied insanely streaky and even after 3 coats I could see some unevenness in certain lightings. 3c + TC
One Chic Chick is a dusty pastel yellow crelly. What a gorgeous color! A must-have for yellow lovers in my opinion and of course perfect for spring! However, the formula was again not so great. It applied streaky and I needed 3 coats for full opacity. 3c + TC
Stop It I’m Blushing! is a pastel salmon pink crelly. I think this polish would flatter most skin tones. Application was streaky and I needed 3 coats, but I guess you could get away with two thicker coats. 3c + TC
This Cost Me a Mint is a dusty pastel green creme. Nice color but nothing unique. I have several VERY similar polishes in my collection (Zoya Neely and Tiana, OPI That’s Hula-rious!). Application and opacity were alright on this one. 2c + TC
I have quite a strong opinion on this collection. While I love the color selection, I am incredibly disappointed in the formula of most of them, up to the point where I even regret purchasing them. If a company promises me “seriously opaque” shades I expect something different. Indie brands invest an enormous amount of time and effort into developing high-quality polishes and I don’t understand why OPI can’t do the same. They sure have infinitely more resources. What do you think about the collection?
Thanks for stopping by! 🙂

One Chic Chick is the prettiest! Shame about the so so formula!
I just painted mine with San Tan-Tonio and it was streaky too – not what I expect from OPI 🙂

I also adore the color of One Chic Chick! If only the formula was better 😦 Lately I’ve been really disappointed in OPI …
